Allison Homes is one of the UK's largest privately owned housebuilders. For a new development in North Devon they wanted Matterport 3D virtual tours of two show homes, the Lyndale and the Oakdale, with a clear purpose behind them: a permanent digital record of each interior design scheme that could be shown in VR headsets at pop-up marketing events and explored online by buyers who could not get to the site.

Show homes are among the most valuable things a developer owns and among the most temporary. Once the plots are sold the styling, the finishes and the carefully dressed rooms are gone. A Matterport scan keeps all of it, so the sales team can carry on using the home long after the physical one has been handed over.

Scanning the Lyndale and the Oakdale

Each home was scanned in full, room by room, on a Matterport Pro3 LiDAR scanner, with scan positions planned so every space is covered without gaps and the tour flows naturally from hallway to kitchen to bedrooms. A show home of this size takes between one and two hours to scan thoroughly. The finished tours give buyers the dollhouse view, a floor plan and the ability to move through the house and zoom into the detail of a kitchen or an en-suite, which is exactly what a headset visitor at a pop-up event or a remote buyer on a laptop needs.

Photography on the same visit

Alongside the scans we photographed both homes for portals, brochures and digital campaigns: around 30 to 40 finished images per house, covering the statement wallpapers, the navy and grey shaker kitchens, the bedrooms and bathrooms, and the small styling details that make a scheme feel considered. Doing the photography and the scan in one appointment means the development launched with its whole marketing set at once, and the styling was captured before anything was moved.

Why Matterport for show homes

Still photography sells the listing; a Matterport tour sells the layout. Buyers share the link with family who missed the viewing, solicitors and mortgage advisers can see the property, and the tour keeps working through the whole sales cycle rather than only at first contact. For the developer, the model doubles as a record of the design scheme that can be reused at events and on the website for as long as the hosting stays active.
